Galaxy represent at Papamoa and Whakatane 2024
Galaxy Touch entered 2 teams into the Papamoa tournament on Friday 5th Jan as well as 2 mens teams into the Whakatane dropoff tournament and 6 teams into the annual Whakatane touch tournament Saturday 6th Jan. It was another fantastic weekend. We are so proud of our teams who performed well against the toughest teams from all over NZ as well as teams from Australia and the worlds best player Dylan Hennessey who flew over from Australia and played fro the Elementz mens team.
Friday saw our Galaxy masters mens team defend the trophy they won last year with solid round robin wins against Old School Islanders, Tatou tatou and Sunz, They took on the star studded NZ Baabaas in the semifinal and a tough Sunz outfit again in the Final winning 8 - 4. Our Galaxy womens team also went through undefeated in the round robin however they went on to lose their semifinal match against Harbour. A good day in the Papamoa sun with good people being healthy and active.
Friday evening we entered 3 teams into the Whakatane open mens dropoff tournament. Galaxy Brotherhood from Wellington and Galaxy Black and Galaxy White from Auckland. Brotherhood performed well however got knocked out early. Both Galaxy Auckland teams went well knocking off some of the big guns including Wairere and Playin Up along the way to make the semifinals where they played each other. Galaxy Black going on to the final and losing to Az1.
Saturday we had 6 Galaxy teams across the grades. Galaxy Auckland and Wellington in open mens. Galaxy Auckland in open mixed. Galaxy Waikato 16Girls and Galaxy BOP in restricted womens and Galaxy Auckland in 35mens.
All teams competed well with the mixed team outdoing all expectation and winning the grade going undefeated(10 players at school last year). Galaxy Waikato Under16girls also winning the restricted womens grade undefeated against experienced womens teams. Our Galaxy BOP masters womens winning the plate trophy in the restricted womens. Our masters men couldn’t hold on to their trophy from last year losing to a powerfup Az1 team in the final. Our Wellington brotherhood and Galaxy Auckland mens teams not getting much wins in their pools but gaining valuable experience against strong teams as they develop and grow.
We want to thank all our whanau, players, parents, supporters, referees and sponsors. Your ongoing support is always hugely appreciated. We look forward to another fun year of cool experiences and growth.
